Low-carbon heating supplies

Heat-pump electrics
planned properly.

The electrical side of an air-source heat-pump installation needs the right supply capacity, dedicated protection, cable routes and local isolation—not simply a nearby connection point.

What’s included

Professional from
start to finish.

SL4 provides the electrical installation that supports heat-pump and hot-water equipment across Dudley and the wider West Midlands, working from the manufacturer’s requirements and coordinating the electrical work with the heating installation.

The existing electricity supply, consumer unit, earthing and expected equipment loads are checked before the circuit design is agreed.

02

Dedicated circuits

Heat-pump, control, cylinder and immersion-heater supplies are installed to the equipment requirements with suitable cable and circuit protection.

03

Local isolation

Accessible isolation is provided where required so the equipment can be switched off safely for commissioning, maintenance and repair.

Know who does what

The heating system and
the electrical supply.

The heating installer selects and commissions the heat-pump system. SL4 handles the fixed electrical work needed to supply it safely, using the final equipment details so the circuit, protection and isolation match the installation.

01 · Before quoting

Final equipment details

Model numbers, electrical ratings and the heating design are needed because outdoor units, backup heaters, cylinders and controls can require separate supplies.

02 · Before installing

Capacity and cable routes

The incoming supply, consumer unit, diversity and practical cable routes are reviewed before electrical work is booked.

03 · At completion

Coordination and handover

The electrical supplies are identified, tested and left ready for the heating engineer’s equipment commissioning and final system checks.

Simple process

What happens next

  1. 1Send the property postcode, proposed equipment schedule and the heating installer’s electrical requirements.
  2. 2I’ll assess the existing supply, consumer unit, loads and practical cable routes.
  3. 3The quotation sets out the circuits, protection, isolation and coordination required.
  4. 4The supplies are installed, identified, tested and certified ready for system commissioning.

Helpful answers

Common questions
answered clearly.

Practical information before you arrange a quotation or site visit.

What information is needed for a heat-pump electrical quotation?

Send the heat-pump and cylinder model numbers, manufacturer’s electrical data, the heating installer’s design or schedule, the property postcode and photos of the consumer unit, meter area, proposed outdoor-unit position and likely cable routes.

Does a heat pump need a dedicated electrical circuit?

Commonly, yes, and a system may need more than one supply for the outdoor unit, controls, cylinder or backup heating. The final design must follow the actual equipment ratings and manufacturer’s requirements.

Will my consumer unit need upgrading?

Not automatically. The available capacity, existing protective devices, spare ways, earthing and the new equipment loads are assessed first. If changes are needed, they are explained as part of the quotation.

Do you install the heating and plumbing equipment too?

SL4 carries out the fixed electrical installation for the system. The heat-pump unit, pipework and heating controls are selected and commissioned by the appropriate heating installer, with the two parts coordinated around the equipment requirements.

Can you provide supplies for the hot-water cylinder and immersion heater?

Yes. Cylinder controls, immersion heaters and other associated fixed equipment can be included where their ratings and wiring requirements are provided in advance.

Will the electrical work be tested and certified?

Yes. New circuits are inspected and tested and the appropriate Electrical Installation Certificate is supplied after completion.
